My Story

Jared Warsoff

My journey in audio actually started when I discovered that two of my biggest passions, music and technology, could be combined into a single career path. As someone who was just as much a musician as an engineering-minded person, audio turned out to be the best of both worlds for me.

I attended the Hartt School of Music at University of Hartford in Connecticut from 2013 to 2018, where I studied Music Production Technology. I cut my teeth recording, mixing, and producing all types of classical and jazz ensembles along with other genres both for class and outside of class. The program I was in also allowed me to continue my musical studies with an instrumental focus in jazz saxophone, as well as taking classes in theory and history.

During the summers, I furthered my education by doing internships at recording studios. One particular summer was spent at Atlantic Records in their in-house NYC studio. Mentored by the studio manager, Ron Robinson, and chief engineer, Ebonie Smith, my perspective of the audio and music world completely opened up. I came back to school in the fall armed with a whole new set of skills and experience honed by working in a world-class studio.

After graduating from Hartt, I interned at Sound on Sound Studios in Montclair, NJ while also continuing to grow my freelance work. I also was a stagehand at Rockland Bergen Music Festival, as I had been doing for a number of years prior along with helping out with other aspects of the festival run by another mentor of mine, Joe D’Urso. I ended up getting a full-time job as an audio tech with the event production company that supported the festival, Dynamic Productions, and thus venturing into the world of live sound. Having expanded my skill set, I also began mixing bands at local music venues in the Bergen County and Rockland County areas. Since then, I've mixed shows at venues like Tarrytown Music Hall (Tarrytown, NY), The Turning Point (Piermont, NY), The Jazz Forum (Tarrytown, NY), and the Penguin Rep Theatre (Stony Point, NY). I've worked with artists such as Josh Ritter, Steve Forbert, Richard Shindell, Matt Jaffe, James Maddock, Jeffrey Gaines, Guy Davis, The Slambovian Circus of Dreams, Joe D’Urso & Stone Caravan, Neil Berg, Adam Falcon, Mary Fahl, Javon Jackson, Paul Shapiro, and many more.

I also built a mobile recording rig to help realize my vision of being able to turn any location into a studio. Alongside my music-based projects, I've ventured into the podcast audio world as well. I spent a year working as an audio editor for Science Rehashed, a podcast geared towards making concepts in science more accessible to the public.

As for my "day job", over the past few years, I've been building a career in the pro audio equipment industry. I've gone from being a technician to managing marketing and content creation for highly respected brands, and you can find me at trade shows nerding out about gear with fellow audio professionals.

Outside of the audio business, I’m also a multi-instrumentalist and songwriter. Living in my native state of New Jersey, a stone's throw from NYC, I enjoy reading, hiking, cycling, and visiting local breweries, among other things.
